Learning ZoneThe Lowell Housing Authority (LHA) provides an academic-based after school enrichment program. The overall mission of the Learning Zone is to offer daily tutoring assistance, hands-on activities, critical thinking exercises, informational guest speakers, and recreational opportunities to further promote academic success and broaden one's quest for knowledge. Program staff also act as a liaison between parents and school staff.

The Learning Zone sites serve youth from 5th to 8th grades, and are located at two LHA properties. The Learning Zone at North Common Village serves youths from the North Common Village development as well as the surrounding Acre neighborhood. The Learning Zone at the George W. Flanagan development serves youths from the George W. Flanagan development as well as the surrounding Highlands neighborhood.

The Learning Zone hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 3:00PM-5:30PM, September through June. Each site is capable of serving twenty-five participants and is staffed with one Program Manager, one Program Coordinator, and volunteer tutors.

Parents seeking an enrollment application via mail may contact Michelle Dinan, Family Self-Sufficiency Director at 978-364-5368. Applications may also be obtained in person at each Learning Zone (21 Salem St. or 580 Chelmsford St.) Monday through Thursday from 3:00PM-5:30PM.

The Yawkey Scholars Program Scholarship, Fall 2018


The Yawkey Foundation Scholarship makes college affordable for talented, motivated, low-income students from Massachusetts. It provides a four-year renewable tuition scholarship and other supports to foster academic achievement. Red Pine Scholarship, Fall 2018
